August 20, 1945 - February 21, 2023
77 Years
It is with heavy hearts and love, that we mourn the loss of our dear wife, mother, and grandmother Diana Gail Fast.
Diana Gail Aebig was born August 20, 1945, to Earl and Emma Aebig at Rosthern Hospital. She peacefully passed away surrounded by family at Royal University Hospital on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at the age of 77. She was the oldest of 2 children. Diana and her sister Jocelyn were very close even though Diana was 9 years older.
Diana grew up on a farm outside of Laird with her parents and Jocelyn. She always loved animals and had many pets during her time on the farm and throughout her entire life. She attended school in Laird, Rosthern at RJC for Grade 11, and at Aden Bowman in Saskatoon for Grade 12.
Diana took a bookkeeping course after High School. She would put these skills to good use after a short hiatus to get married and have 3 children. She worked part-time at the Market Mall Gulf, later Petro Can, and eventually Fleetmaster Service, along with many other clients over the years.
Diana married Ronald Fast of Waldheim on November 16, 1963. It was a whirlwind romance as once engaged they only had 4 weeks to plan a wedding before the marriage license expired. They made Saskatoon their home. In 1968, the first of 3 children, Corey Wade was born, followed by Christopher Ronald in 1971, and Danielle Gail in 1975.
Diana was a busy mother and played an active role in her children’s lives. Running to many appointments, sports, and on special occasions a trip to McDonald’s, where you could feed a family for $6.00.
Church was an important part of Diana’s life. She attended Augustana Lutheran Church and enjoyed her Church family and friends. She also spent many volunteer hours as the treasurer for LuMinHos, making many valuable friends and connections along the way.
Many weekends were spent with Ron, the kids, and the dogs at Candle Lake. Fridays were spent getting groceries and packing up supplies and family for the trip. Sundays were for the trip home, unpacking and doing laundry. She always made sure to wear her swim cap, and swim shoes before going into the water. She would not want to mess up her hair.
Two of Diana’s passions were fashion and her garden. She worked part-time at Cleo Clothing in Market Mall and she loved helping customers and giving fashion advice. Diana always looked so good and followed the trends and latest fashions. When the days at the lake were over Diana spent countless hours in her garden. She loved working in her yard where everything had a place and purpose. Her yard always looked beautiful.
Diana loved spending time with her grandkids (and grand dogs). She hosted many sleepovers and attended many of her grandchildren’s activities. They were always spoiled, especially at Christmas.
Christmas was a very special time for her, the house was always decorated perfectly. On Christmas Eve there was lasagna in the oven, caesar salad, cheese toast, candlelight service, and presents. So many presents! It was so much fun, and we take comfort in the many memories she created for us.
Diana will be missed by her family: husband, Ronald Fast; sons, Corey (Cara) Fast, Chris (Glenna) Fast; daughter, Danielle (Scott) Carlson; grandchildren, Danica and Emily Fast; Sarah and Declan Carlson; sister, Jocelyn (Ernie) Sommerfeld; and many loved nieces, nephews and family members. Diana was predeceased by her parents, Emma and Earl Aebig.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Royal University Hospital for their support and care for Diana and her family.
The family sincerely thanks you for sharing in our sorrow. In times like this we realize how much our family and friends mean to us. Your expressions of sympathy will always be remembered.
