In the Fall of 1970 a young couple, Heather and Albert Waldbauer moved to Rosthern, Saskatchewan. Heather was hired to teach music from kindergarten to grade 8 in the local school. Albert was beginning 1st year Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon. One day Heather made an appointment with the local Beauty Parlor to get her hair cut and coloured. The hairdresser apparently made an error in the use of the chemicals because shortly after that procedure Heather’s hair began falling out. Unbeknown to us, the owner of the business, Elsie Markwart was in the hospital recovering from a cardiovascular event. When Elsie had heard of Heather’s misfortune she apologized and assured Heather that she would correct the damage. She immediately fitted Heather with an exotic wig which disguised the damage. But what really happened was the beginning of a life long relationship. We were both accepted and treated like family. In 2018 when Harvey asked Elsie who she would like to accompany her on a cruise from Quebec City, Canada to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Elsie replied: “Heather and Albert.” We will always treasure Elsie in our hearts.
