88 Years
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vern Conrad Triol. Vern was born on November 24, 1934 in Rosthern, SK, and passed peacefully on July 18, 2023, at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. Vern was accompanied by various family members at the time of his passing.
Left to mourn him are his children, Neil (Brenda) Slade, Donald (Gilda) Slade, Kathy (Slade) Peters (Alvin), Daryl Slade, Jeff (Tamara) Slade, Dale (Kelly) Triol, Melanie (Triol) Makepeace; sisters Irene Shier and Clara Biehn; sister-in-law Marilyn Rodgers; fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Vern was predeceased by his spouse Ilene Triol (Slade nee Falloon); his parents, Henry and Sarah Triol; his four sisters; one brother; and his daughter-in-law Paulette Slade (Daryl).
Vern worked in the Co-op retail system for 25 years in various locations, following which he was employed by the Saskatchewan Highway Traffic Board - Compliance Division, for 21 years.
Vern was very active in the Rosthern community in various forms including refereeing hockey, the Lions Club, the Fair Board, and the Station Arts Centre. Vern was an avid gardener and well known for his abundance of tomatoes. In retirement, Vern and Ilene canned fruits and vegetables and gave cases of canned tomatoes and fruits as Christmas gifts to their children -> the best gifts ever! Another favourite pastime of Vern’s was playing cards. Many afternoons were spent with family, playing exciting, competitive games of Canasta. Vern was a longtime, faithful Saskatchewan Roughrider fan. One of his favourite memories was attending the 2007 Grey Cup game in Toronto, with 3 generations of family, to watch the Riders beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Vern has requested to not have a funeral. His ashes will be interred in the Rosthern Cemetary, beside his parents, at a private family ceremony.
