Vas ist ein Vollkornbrot? When the Sawatzky family still met at the New Horizon's in Hague, Sk at Christmas I asked Aunt Helen for Grandma Sawatzky's Vollkornbrot recipe. As Grandma made the best Vollkornbrot bread. Aunt Helen with a straight pan face tells me, "I just use rye flour and water." I inquired there is nothing more, no she says with the corners of her mouth turned down and the nod, this is it. So I try, that following year I see Aunt Helen at the next Sawatzky Christmas gathering and I say to her, "that recipe she gave me needs a little more than flour and water, that I can't seem to make it with only rye flour and water." She laughs slaps my knee and giggled. I will always remember her sense of humour, love of a laugh and the smile from ear to ear. Such a loving kind person with a great sense of humour.
