Obituary of Rodney Blatz

84 years

Rodney Lance Blatz, age 84 years, died peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon on December 27, 2023, with family at his side.

Rodney Lance Blatz was born July 13, 1939, at Rosthern Hospital to Edward and Isabelle Blatz. He grew up on Maple Grove farm along with his three brothers. At the age of 20,

Dad took over the farming of Maple Grove farm after the passing of his father. He married the love of his life, Marlene Schmidt on October 21, 1960. Our parents started their life on the farm and eventually, their dream came true in 1975, when they were able to move into their new home where many great memories were made.

Dad’s pride and joy were watching us in all our activities through our years of growing up. Travelling many highways and across the country to cheer us on. As the years passed, he was able to continue on the road following his grandchildren in their activities. Many wonderful friendships were made along the way.

Summers at Waskesiu Lake with the family were always a highlight for Dad. He cherished the memories made and every year looked forward to having us all together.

After the passing of Mom, Dad moved to The Bentley in Saskatoon to be closer to family where he established a community of new friends. He enjoyed meeting up with his good friends every week at Happy Hour where countless stories and laughs were shared. Dad enjoyed friends and family visits and hearing updates on his great-grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments.

In March of 2023, due to declining health, Dad moved to Sherbrooke Community Centre where he again made many new friends and was appreciative of the care they provided. His love for his family sustained and strengthened him bringing him happiness and comfort in his final days.

At the age of 84 with family at his side, Dad died peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon on December 27, 2023.

Rodney was predeceased by his father Edward, mother Isabelle, wife Marlene in 2015, and two brothers, Barry and Dudley.

He is survived by his children, Kerry (Monique), grandchildren Alyssa (John), great-grandchildren Amelia, Jackson, Courtney (Brian), Brett (Megan); Kent (Laurel), grandchildren Megan (Dustin), Brianne (Lennon); Lori (Ken), grandchildren Devin (Allison), great-grandchildren Gavin, Nolan, Austin, Brandon (Amy); Kirt (Janice) grandchildren Reagan, Brennan; brother Randy (Ida); sisters-in-law Dorothy Blatz and Carol Blatz.

 

 

A celebration of Rodney’s life will be held

Saturday, June 1, 2024

2:00 P.M.

Seager Wheeler Farm

east of Rosthern on HWY 312

 

 

Condolences may be left for the family on the Tribute Wall.
