March 1, 1930 - May 9, 2024
94 Years
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of June Sheehan on May 9, 2024, after a gallant battle with vascular dementia and a brain tumour.
June was born on March 1, 1930, to Pauline and Carson Mellish in the town of Zelma, SK. She was the oldest child of the second family of Pauline.
She married Ray Sheehan on October 24, 1953, and together they had one child Elaine. Ray had been stationed in Montreal with the Canadian Signal Corp when Elaine was born in Saskatoon. Early in her pregnancy June had gone to the family farm in Zelma SK to be with her mom who was dying from cancer. Her mom Pauline never knew that June was pregnant with Elaine.
Shortly after Elaine was born the family moved to Vancouver for two years after that they returned to Saskatoon and bought the house on Lorne Avenue.
June worked at Lorne Avenue Drugstore for over thirty years under three different owners where she became affectionately known as “The Candy Lady” for the generous penny candy bags the kids in the neighborhood got. Mom always went the extra mile for her elderly customers like looking after the houses when they went on holidays or going downtown on her days off to get them something that the drugstore didn’t carry.
June was predeceased by her first husband Ray in 1996; her second husband Nick Kanigan in 2016; parents, Pauline and Carson; and her siblings, Hilda, Adeline, Bill, Lucille, and Eugene.
She is survived by her daughter Elaine and her husband Harv Britton of Rosthern, SK; five step-grandchildren, James (Veronica) of Ottawa ON, Jordan (Kim) of Rosthern, SK, Jason of Saskatoon, SK, Jeremy of Saskatoon, SK, and Joselyn (Keano) of Saskatoon, SK; 8 great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Samuel, Dom, Bentley, Trayden, Liam, Grace, and Aaliyah.
June will be deeply missed by those that she leaves behind.
It was June’s wish that there be no service,
and interment of her ashes will be held at a later time.
