It was a lovely Wednesday afternoon celebrating Merla’s life. Many unheard stories emerged only to prompt wonderment of the life she led. If you care to receive a recent picture of Merla, please email Randy Sawatzky at rsawatzky@meda.org. Include your name, relationship, and contact information on the message.
I was privileged to reconnect with Merla as we planned our 60th nursing class reunion last year. Her health did not permit her to join us but she sent warm greetings to us. 20 years ago she sent a bio to be included in our memory booklet. We were all very impressed with her service and teaching in missions around the world. Following our get together last year I sent her pictures and she sent me a very warm thank you letter. Our telephone calls were so pleasant. I wish I had been more regular. Rest in peace Merle

Merla was a good and dedicated friend. We shared many conversations over 'faspa' at her home in Rosthern. Merla loved her garden and flowers and enjoyed and named the birds that ate at her feeder. She was an avid reader and loved a good dialogue about the things that interested her and did not hesitate to let you know where she stood on things. She was a strong supporter of people less fortunate than herself and helped many people around the world through her support of MCC. No matter where in the world we lived Merla sent us cards and notes regularly. She will be dearly missed.
Good-bye dear friend... Bruno Baerg
Merla was the daughter of Susie and John dyck. When the family lived at osler sask in the 1950s and 1960s John dyck was the cnr foreman and station agent. Merla grew up amongst her father’s prize winning gladiolus. Her bedroom window was less than 40 feet from the four trains that steamed by every day. She and her parents were faithful members of osler Mennonite church where she taught Sunday school in the 1960s to teenage girls. Merla was both a registered nurse and a teacher. She developed strong relations with the older women of the “ladies aid society”. I would be pleased to dialogue with others who knew Merla at 306 250 2902. Jake buhler Saskatoon.
Merla is my cousin. When my mother passed away, Aunt Susie took over praying for my son. When Aunt Susie passed, Merla let me know she took over praying for my son!
She never forgot my birthday & always a handwritten letter in a Christmas card!
