Obituary of Gerald Funk
February 1, 1947 – January 5, 2017 It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Gerald Funk of Dalmeny, SK. While we are overwhelmed, we know that he is with the Lord and our confidence is in that hope. Gerald Clark Funk was born February 1, 1947, in Saskatoon, SK, the first born of Clarence and Mary Funk. Gerald went to Dalmeny School, and was active in sports. He loved to watch various sports, and especially loved watching his kids and grandkids in their athletic endeavours. He married Jenny Boehr in 1971. Christine (Chris) was born in 1972, Ryan in 1975, and Stefan completed the family in 1980. He loved his family greatly, and both daughters-in-law DeAnne and Katrina knew that he loved them as though they were his own. Gerald worked for 9 years at Federated Co-op Feedmill before taking over Dalmeny Funeral Home from his dad Clarence in 1980. Gerald’s life work as a Funeral Director was very important to him. He took his job very seriously, making sure that he provided care to each family filled with dignity, integrity, honour and respect. He loved serving Dalmeny, Saskatoon, and the valley area for 31 years. He considered it a privilege to be able to care for families during their time of great loss. He sacrificed much to care for many grandparents, parents, uncles, aunties, siblings, children and friends but always considered it his honour to be called upon. He was so proud that his sons followed his footsteps, becoming the 4th generation of Funks to serve grieving families with Ryan at Funk’s Funeral Home in Rosthern and Stefan at Dalmeny Funeral Home in Dalmeny. Gerald enjoyed being an active part in the town and church communities, participating as a volunteer firefighter in Dalmeny, a board member for Spruce Manor Special Care Home and serving on the board at Camp Kadesh for several years. Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Jenny; daughter Chris Funk, Calgary, AB; sons Ryan (DeAnne) Funk, Emily, Natalie and Zachary of Rosthern, SK; Stefan (Katrina) Funk, Tyler, Jayella and Sofia of Dalmeny, SK; sister Janice, (Virgil) Penner; brother Bryan (Esther) Funk; mother-in-law, Linda Boehr; brothers-in-law Wes (Yvonne) Boehr, Charles (Eleanor) Boehr; aunt Esther Boldt; uncle Dennis (Margaret) Boldt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
