Obituary of Helen Liese

Helen Liese 1939 – 2012 Helen Liese, beloved daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully at her home in Martensville on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the age of 72. She is now with her Savior in her eternal home! Helen was born on November 29, 1939 at Great Deer, to Corny and Lena Hiebert. She grew up on the farm and enjoyed playing and helping out with her younger siblings. She enjoyed school and excelled in every subject. Helen attended Walter Scott School until Grade 8, then went on to complete her high school education in Hepburn School and R.J.C. Helen accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, was baptized and joined the Borden Mennonite Brethern Church during this time. Helen had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She sang solos in church on many occasions. Because of her love for learning, she accepted a Supervisory position at Adamiwka School near Hague. Helen helped many students get through that school year and she put together a wonderful Christmas program for parents and friends. For several years Helen worked at housekeeping and babysitting jobs in Saskatoon. In 1967 she married Ray Liese. They farmed in the Macoun area, near Estevan. After their marriage ended, Helen moved back to Saskatoon and lived on her own. She did volunteer work at the Opportunity Shop, enjoyed going for walks to the Mendel Art Gallery and catching a few Garage Sales along the way. She enjoyed coming out to visit family and looked forward to family members stopping by for a visit and bringing her a picture or two from family members and she enjoyed going out for lunch. She always wanted to know how her nephews and nieces were doing, and most recently her great-great niece. Helen always remembered her siblings’ birthdays, either with a phone call, a card, or both. When Helen could no longer live on her own, she moved into a private care home in Martensville. She lived there for 11 years, until her passing. Until February 18, when Helen fell and broke her knee cap, she looked forward to going for a walk each day and having coffee and something to eat at the Greek Villa Restaurant in Martensville. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her mother Lena Hiebert of Waldheim; Siblings: Cornie (Joyce) Hiebert, Waldheim; Susan Dyck, Saskatoon; Ann (Robert) Janzen, Waldheim; John Hiebert, Laird; Jim Hiebert, Waldheim; 15 nieces and nephews; 24 great nieces and nephews; 1 great-great niece and many uncles, aunts and cousins. Helen was predeceased by her father Corny Hiebert and a sister in infancy. We are not saying good bye, but rather “We’ll see you later”. Our family would like to thank everyone for their acts of kindness and love shown us during this time. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, April 16, 2012 at Funk’s Funeral Chapel officiated by Pastor Darrell Derksen of Waldheim. Interment took place in Waldheim Cemetery. The pallbearers were Steven Hiebert, Trevor Hiebert, Clayton Janzen, Robert Janzen, Rick Janzen, and Sheldon Janzen. Arrangements were in care of Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern.
