Obituary of Lily Hogman
October 30, 1923 – October 18, 2013 Lily Hogman, formerly of Pambrun, Sask., passed away on October 18, 2013 at the Mennonite Nursing Home, Rosthern, Sask., at the age of 89. Lily was born October 30, 1923 near Roland, Man., daughter of John & Mary Warkentin. Her public school education took place at Debonair School and Winkler High School. Following high school Lily taught public school by permit until enrolling in Winnipeg Bible Institute (now Providence University College) from which she graduated. After earning her Licensed Practical Nurse diploma she worked in Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg, for a brief time before marrying George Hogman of Estevan, Sask., June 3, 1949. The newlyweds began pastoral ministry in the Mission Church, Griffin, Sask., and then for 13 years in the Estevan Gospel Chapel before moving to Winnipeg in 1966 where George took further studies. Pambrun then became their home where George served on the faculty of Millar College of the Bible for 27 years before retiring in 1996 and continuing residence in Pambrun. Lily served as a loving and capable support for her husband, a wise mother and loving grandmother. Prior to health problems later in life, she was involved in church affairs and community events (no doubt there are those who remember her glazed doughnuts served at these gatherings). She hosted numerous guests in their home, particularly missionaries and others traveling through in ministry. Her capacity and willingness to serve others stemmed from her personal faith in Christ. In 2009 George and Lil moved to Pineview Manor and Mennonite Nursing Home at Rosthern. Lily is survived by her loving husband, George; daughters Carol (Noel) Hardy, Vernon, BC; Merle Hogman, Tarija, Bolivia; son Roland (Denise) Hodgman, Prince Albert, SK; grandsons: Lane (Nicole) Hardy, Sean Hardy, Tyler (Kari) Hardy (and daughter Indy Lily May), Kyle (Jamie) Hodgman, Wade Hodgman, Mark Hodgman, Shad Hodgman. She was predeceased by a brother in infancy, and her sister Alma (Beno) Giesbrecht of Winkler, Man. Funeral service will be held at Fairview Bible Church, 641 – 2nd Ave. SE, Swift Current, Sask., on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Public viewing at 1:00 pm, interment and lunch to follow. The family wishes to thank the staff of Mennonite Nursing Home for going beyond the call of duty in their care for Lily. Memorial donations may be made to Millar College of the Bible, PO Box 25, Pambrun, SK S0N 1W0. Arrangements are in care of Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK, 306-232-5245 www.funksfuneralhome.ca
