George Hogman

Obituary of George Albert Hogman

January 4, 1922 – October 10, 2016 George Hogman, formerly of Pambrun, SK., passed away October 10, 2016 at the Mennonite Nursing Home, Rosthern, SK., at the age of 94. George was born January 4, 1922 at Estevan, SK, son of Sinclair & Florence Hogman, and grew up on the farm with his three siblings. His public school education began at Bethel School, and he graduated from Estevan Collegiate Institute. Though he enjoyed farm life, his love for reading and academics as a youngster was an early indicator of his future. During World War II, George served with the RCAF, including one year as flying instructor at Prince Albert, SK., and one year overseas. While in England he was asked to preach. Later George realized that God’s hand had been in this, preparing him for his life’s work. He studied at Winnipeg Bible Institute (now Providence University College), where he met Lily Warkentin. They were married June 3, 1949. The couple ministered first in the Mission Church at Griffin, SK., and then for 13 years in the Gospel Chapel, Estevan. In 1969 George graduated from the University of Winnipeg and joined the faculty of Millar College of the Bible, Pambrun, SK., where he served as instructor and in administrative positions for 27 years. He retired from teaching in 1996. He and Lil continued residing in Pambrun until 2009 when they moved to Pineview Manor and Mennonite Nursing Home at Rosthern, SK. Even in his later years, when his memory faded, he continued to rejoice in God’s past and present blessings, especially his salvation and daily walk with Christ. He looked forward to seeing his Saviour face to face. George was predeceased by his wife, Lily; his sister, Joyce Stregger; and his daughter, Carol Hardy. George is survived by his son Roland (Denise) Hodgman, Prince Albert, SK; daughter Merle Hogman, Tarija, Bolivia; son-in-law Noel Hardy, Vernon, BC; grandsons: Lane (Nicole) Hardy (and daughter Anneli), Sean Hardy, Tyler (Cari) Hardy (and daughter Indy), Kyle (Jamie) Hodgman, Wade Hodgman, Mark Hodgman, Shad Hodgman; brother Don Hogman, and sister Dorine Streight. The Funeral Service will be held at Fairview Bible Church, 641 – 2nd Ave. SE, Swift Current, SK., on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Public viewing at 1:00 pm. Interment and refreshments to follow the Funeral Service. The family wishes to thank the staff of Mennonite Nursing Home for going beyond the call of duty in their care for George.
