Obituary of Joseph Parenteau

December 28, 1930 – July 25, 2018 It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Alfred Joseph Parenteau of Saskatoon at Luther Special Care Home on July 25, 2018. Joe was born on December 28, 1930, in Horse Lake, SK, the 10th child of 12. Joe left home at 13 years of age to work in the bush. He met and married Lucille Deguire in Prince Albert on October 3, 1953. They moved to Saskatoon where Joe worked for Sask Power for 33 years, starting at AL Cole and finishing his career at Queen Elizabeth. After retirement, he and Lucille moved to Duck Lake. He and Lucille took many ski trips. Joe was instrumental in reviving the Shrine and rebuilding the log church at the St. Laurent Shrine where his metal art work will live on for generations. Joe’s many hobbies included wood-working, welding, card playing, and he always had a story or joke to tell. Joe enjoyed his friends and cabin at Turtle Lake – fishing, boating, and skiing in summer and snowmobiling in winter. Joe was involved in his boys’ sports and enjoyed time watching his grandchildren at theirs. Joe was a wonderful dancer and spent many years attending old time dances. Joe valued his sobriety and was a member of AA since 1962. He and Lucille moved back to Saskatoon in 2003 to a seniors’ condo, then to assisted living and finally to Luther Care Home. He is survived by his wife Lucille of 64 years, his brother Sidney, sons Kal (Joyce) and Rick (Susan) and daughter Joanne, grandchildren Amanda Clark (Steve), Clay (Erin), Reighan (Mike Botelho), Colin (Victoria), Joe (Sabrina), Spencer (Amanda), great grandchildren Kelsi, Joshua, Ali, Carter, Ireland, Kendra, Bella and Quinn, as well as adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to St. Laurent Shrine, Luther Special Care Home or the Alzheimer’s Society.
