Obituary of Helena Rempel

October 9, 1936 - November 18, 2021

85 Years

Helena Rempel (nee Hiebert) or as Carolyn would say “Linus”, was born to JM Hiebert and Katherine (nee Guenther), on October 9, 1936.

She was born almost in the middle of 11 children.  They all had to work hard to make the farm work.  Mom often talked about how they had to pull weeds in the grain fields by hand.

Mom and Dad met at a wedding, Dad took her home with a farm truck and Dad’s friends were ousted to the truck box.  Dad & Mom were married July 21, 1957.  They lived with Grandpa and Grandma Rempel for the first year of their marriage.  They bought the Pete Penner farm and struck out on their own.  Mom always said they worked hard to clean up the yard.

Family was important to mom.  They were blessed with 4 children – Joyce, Harvey, Kenneth, and Carolyn.  Well in advance of a holiday, she was making sure we were coming home for Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and her birthday.

Mom loved her flowers and plants.  She developed that love from her mother who had beautiful perennial gardens.  Mom spent lots of time developing her flower beds and annual flowerpots wherever they lived.

Mom loved to cook food for people.  The more people she had to cook for the happier she was.

The last years were difficult for Mom because of her diagnosis of vascular dementia.  She felt like she was never home.  The Lord has now blessed her with a Heavenly home.

She is survived by her: children, Joyce (Randy) Vellacott, Harvey (Donna) Rempel, Ken (Kate Biddell) Rempel, Carolyn Rempel; 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Tena Janzen, Elsie Siemens, Dora (Ron) Adrian; brother, Henry Hiebert; sister-in-law, Marge Fehr; and brother-in-law, Peter Fehr.

She was predeceased by her: husband Peter Rempel in 2017; parents, Jacob and Katherina Hiebert; sisters, Martha Reddekopp, Nora Fehr, Mary Giesbrecht; and brothers, Corny, John, and Peter Hiebert.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. at the Rosthern Mennonite Church, Rosthern, SK. Public viewing from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. before the service at church. There will be time during the service for friends and family to share a word that best represents Helen or a special memory.
