Obituary of Jean Janzen
August 6, 1949 – December 9, 2020 It is with heartfelt sadness that we gather to mourn the loss of our deeply beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Elizabeth Jean Janzen. On December 9th, 2020 Jean passed away peacefully at Rosthern Union Hospital at the age of 71 years after battling cancer for 19 years. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Peter; son Richard & Sandra Janzen; son Cory Janzen, children Mason (Darien), Taylor and Carter; son Ryan, children Dalton, Paige (Jesse & Nevaeh), Katherine (Mackenzie) and his wife Jeanine Janzen and their daughter Harper; son Jay Janzen (Dani Zaritsky), and his children Hunter, Layne, and Courtney; brothers Ron & Olga Heinrichs, Ed & Nettie Heinrichs, and sister Alice & Otto Funk. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Margaret Heinrichs, grandson Brock Janzen and sisters, Dorothy Heinrichs and Annabelle Heinrichs. Jean was born on a farm east of Hague on August 6th, 1949 to Peter and Margaret Heinrichs. She grew up on the farm and was the youngest in a family of six. On October 12th, 1968, Jean married the love of her life Peter Janzen. Jean graduated from grade 12 in Hague. After completing high school, she moved to Saskatoon and attended business college. She completed her certificate at business college and worked at Safeway and the Bank of Montreal. In 1968, Jean moved to the farm east of Rosthern with Peter. Jean and Peter lived on the farm for 48 years. Those years were busy years with raising children, milking cows, harvesting, yardwork, gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, sports, and in the later years caring for, and spoiling their grandchildren. At the age of 50, Jean wanted to try something new and went back to school to become a Home Health Care Aid and worked for the Gabriel Springs Health Region for four and half years. In 2018, Jean and Peter moved off the farm and into Rosthern. Family was important to Jean. She loved to spend time with her sons, their partners, and grandchildren. The grandchildren looked forward to spending the night at grandma’s! After the children were grown and some of the grandchildren were older too, she looked forward to the annual fishing trip with some of them at Cowan Lake. Jean was very musically talented; she could sing and play the autoharp. For many years she would sing and play the autoharp at home, but then eventually ended up taking her show on the road. Jean and three other friends formed the musical group, “The Gals 4” and then “3 Gals and a Guy”. They performed at special events in the community and neighboring towns. Jean was always busy. She loved to cook and can the fresh produce from her garden. She was always a big part of the butchering as well. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and was always making pajamas or blankets for the grandchildren. Upon confession of her faith, Jean was baptized in 1967, and lived a life of faith which helped guide her through her many health struggles throughout the years. Jean will be sadly missed by all, but never far from our thoughts. A special thank-you to Jean’s sister, Alice. Alice spent countless hours comforting and supporting both Jean and Peter throughout the years and especially during the last half year. The family would also like to acknowledge the staff at Rosthern Union Hospital for their faithful and compassionate care provided to Jean over the last number of months.
