Obituary of Lottie Peters
July 31, 1945 – March 17, 2013 With respect and sadness, we her family, announce the passing of Lottie Jean (Goertzen) Peters of Mennonite Nursing Home, Rosthern, SK. Lottie was born in Herbert, SK – the seventh of nine children – to John and Margaret (Klassen) Goertzen. She lived on a farm near Main Centre, SK until 1960 when they moved to Waldheim, SK. There she took her Grades 10-12, graduating in 1963. During the following three years she attended Bethany Bible Institute in Hepburn and Saskatoon Business College, after which she was employed at Sunnyside Nursing Home and Saskatoon City Hospital. In 1966 she married Grant Peters of Laird, SK. They lived in Saskatoon and BC until the Spring of 1970 when they and their three sons moved to Laird. In 1972 another son was born. Laird was their home for the next 31 years. In 2001, due to her need for 24 hour care, Lottie and Grant moved to Rosthern where they resided at the Mennonite Nursing Home until the time of Lottie’s passing at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. The loves of her life were her God, her family, her friends and her music. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young child and was baptized in the North Saskatchewan River west of Waldheim, in 1961. God was always her joy and strength in good times and hard times. In 1971 Lottie was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. As M.S. slowly whittled away at her physical strength, she remained strong mentally and spiritually. She supported her husband and four sons with unconditional love. Music was her God given talent. She played piano, accordion, and organ, and sang in choirs, trio and solo. She also had a song in her heart, a good sense of humor, and a smile to share. She has left us wonderful memories of a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. We will miss her dearly, but we look forward to meeting again in the presence of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Lottie was predeceased by her parents John and Margaret Goertzen; 1 sister Selma and 1 brother Walter, brothers-in-law, Leroy Thiessen and Ernest Klippenstein, and sister-in-law Alice Goertzen. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Grant; 4 sons, Warren, Kevin (Bonnie), Jason, and Clayton; grandchildren, Jordan, Joel, Haily, Mallery, Kirsten and Janelle Peters; 30 nieces and nephews; brothers, Victor Goertzen and Rudy (Shirley) Goertzen; sisters, Gladys Thiessen, Hertha Klippenstein, Alice (Robert) Klassen, and Betty Petkau; sisters-in-law, Jean (Cliff) Klassen, Edna Goertzen; brothers-in-law, Jack (Cynthia) Peters and Vince Heagy. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 22, 2013 at Laird Mennonite Church.
